It’s been a busy month at Rhino River Lodge with lots going on! We recently hosted the Travel Channel, who are filming an episode for their television series called ‘World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides South Africa’.
The purpose of the series is to identify great travel routes for motorcycles, as well as to travel to different accommodation places worldwide and give feedback on each establishment. They chose Rhino River Lodge after hearing about our lodge and the game reserve’s reputation with conservation.
Staying in the Homestead at Rhino River Lodge, the crew were very impressed and enjoyed some excellent game sightings while out on private game drives with our head guide, Kyle Naude. The episode will be aired in May this year so keep your eyes peeled for our feature!

RAINSTORM IN THE RESERVE
The reserve is looking wonderfully green again after receiving a whopping 200ml of rain in just 5 days! With roads turning into rivers, and very dry terrain turning into soft, sticky mud, everyone in the camp was filled with excitement and utter relief.
Stories from the bush
Patience is a Virtue for Cheetahs on the Prowl
Carefully positioned upwind from the impala herd, making sure to remain camouflaged in the bushes, the cheetahs’ intention to hunt was clear. What we didn’t know, is that it would take about three hours before their dinner was served.
In the wild, there’s no such thing as fast food. Predators, such as cheetahs, can spend hours stalking their prey before making a move. It’s a tedious process of patience.
While out on a game drive with Rhino River Lodge in the Manyoni Private Game Reserve, I was treated to a wonderful sighting of an adult female cheetah and her two sub-adult cubs. They were relaxing in a patch of shade, escaping the relentless heat of the summer sun.
