Sardine Run
Each year, during the mild winter months of June & July along the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal, a major natural phenomenon occurs that sees millions of sardines migrate north from around Port St Johns to Durban, followed by dolphins, sharks and seabirds.
Vodacom Durban July
This annual event draws the country’s who’s who to Greyville Race Course. This horse race if of major historic importance and dates back to 1897. It takes place the first Saturday in July, and is a big event on the local social calendar.
The Comrades Marathon
Said to be the world’s most grueling ultra marathon, the Comrades Marathon takes place between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. It draws that draws thousands of runners, both local and international as well as thousands of supporters.
Mr Price Pro Surfing Competition
Each year during July, the Mr Price Pro Surfing Competition has been a highlight along Durban’s Beach’s. However, this competition is moving up North to Ballito Bay. It promises to boast the same fun surfing events, beach concerts and lots of fun under the sun.

The Splashy Fen Music Festival, Underberg

The Duzi Canoe Marathon
An annual 120-km canoe race that takes place from Pietermaritzburg to Durban over 3 days in January on two river systems. The Duzi, is known as one of the country’s top sporting events.
The Midmar Mile
The Midmar Mile is the largest open-water swimming event in the world and draws both local and international contestants to the Natal Midlands during February to participate.
The Hibiscus Festival
Held in July in Margate and along the South Coast to co-incide with the school holidays, this festival features sporting contests, music events, market days and beach activities to keep the younger crowd happily occupied.
The Royal Pietermartizburg Show
An absolute institution this decades-old agricultural show brings together horse-lovers, foodies, farmers and families, out to enjoy the interesting stalls, livestock parades, sporting events and good regional produce.
