Day 2 – Durban
Our base for the next 7 nights is in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Flanked by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean to the east and soaring peaks to the west, the area is steeped in Zulu tradition and boasts incredible landscapes, thrilling wildlife and golden beaches. After time to settle in at our hotel we’ll gather for a welcome drink and dinner.
Day 3 – Scottburgh
This morning you could choose to join our optional excursion to the TC Robertson Nature Reserve, which lies on the edge of Scottburgh. Home to around 180 species of birds, we’ll take a walk through the reserve and enjoy tea and cake before returning to the hotel. Later, why not get to know your surroundings better by joining your Tour Manager for a stroll along the beach.
Day 4 – Tala Game Reserve
After breakfast we’ll set off on a thrilling full-day excursion to the Tala Private Game Reserve, located in the hills close to the city of Durban. In the company of an experienced guide we’ll look out for wildlife including rhino, hippo, zebra, giraffe and antelope. The reserve is also home to more than 380 different species of bird. Lunch will be served in a restaurant overlooking the bush.
Day 5 – Malangeni & Pennington
On today’s visit to a local community, we’ll meet the members of a women’s sewing project and tour a cookery school and computer learning centre. These projects are run as part of the South African Social Upliftment scheme to redress past inequalities and increase the quality of life for local people. This afternoon you are free to enjoy the hotel’s superb facilities. Perhaps take a dip in the swimming pool.
Day 6 – Scottburgh
If you want to explore a little further afield, we offer an array of optional excursions. Perhaps you’ll take a sightseeing tour of Durban, the country’s third-largest city, which underwent major renovations ahead of the 2010 World Cup, or enjoy an unforgettable adventure into the mountains to the Sani Pass and Lesotho. Sometimes referred to as the roof of Africa, the pass soars 2,876 metres above sea level, and its summit is accessed by 4X4 vehicles.
Wildlife lovers might also choose to experience an overnight stay at the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, which is renowned for its role in rhino conservation. This optional excursion includes one night’s accommodation and three incredible game drives.
Day 7 – Scottburgh
Enjoy the day at leisure to relax at your hotel and explore at your own pace.
Day 8 – Scottburgh
Another day at leisure or filled with one of the optional activities. This evening we’ll share our stories and experiences when we gather as a group for a farewell get-together.
Day 9 – Durban to UK
