SafariKZN, African Insight Academy and Treverton College have formed a unique partnership. The combination opens the doors allowing touring schools to mix in their sports tour, with unique African experiences. Embark on the ultimate sports and experiential learning tour in South Africa – a 14-day adventure combining training, thrilling competition, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. Sports include: cricket, football, hockey, netball, basketball with opportunities for swimming, golf, tennis and athletics. The partnership provides experiences in many fields and allows flexibility in planning ensuring participants get the most from their chosen sports tour.




Your journey begins at Ezemvelo Nature Reserve, where you’ll experience the thrill of your first game drive on arrival, coming face-to-face with iconic wildlife. Over the next two days, immerse yourself in the landscape with guided bushwalks and exhilarating safaris for a deeper connection with the natural world.


From there, we travel to Treverton College, our sporting base in the picturesque KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Sports fixtures against top South African school teams await, along with dedicated training sessions and multiple competitive matches designed to challenge, inspire, and elevate your game.


After the intensity of competition, switch gears for an unforgettable overnight hike to Stable Caves in the stunning Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. Surrounded by towering peaks and breathtaking vistas, this experience fosters team spirit, resilience, and a sense of adventure.
Next, journey to Pongola Game Reserve, South Africa’s oldest, first proclaimed, game reserve, where conservation meets exploration. Engage in hands-on conservation work and learn skills such as tracking. Venture out on a night safari to witness the magic of the African bush after dark and enjoy a lake launch safari.


A highlight of the tour is an authentic cultural exchange with the local Zulu community. Experience a traditional homestay, contribute to a meaningful community service project, gaining a unique perspective on South Africa’s rich cultural and ecological heritage.
Finally, your adventure culminates in the world-famous Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, a stronghold for rhino conservation and home to Africa’s Big Five. Two days of immersive game drives ensure the perfect send-off before you depart, carrying with you unforgettable memories, newfound skills, and a deeper appreciation for sport, teamwork, and the natural world.

A South African Sports and Adventure Tour
EZEMVELO NATURE RESERVE
A hidden treasure of tranquilities situated near Pretoria and Johannesburg. Immerse yourself in the finest highveld ecosystem and experience nature in its purest form.
Accommodation: Traditional tented safari camp with comfortable beds, lighting and wholesome home-style cooking.
DAILY ACTIVITIES:
- Hiking: Walk among herds of wildlife. As a team you will be there using all your senses looking, listening, hearing and smelling all that surrounds you.
- Game Drives: Observe iconic African wildlife behaviour during day and night safaris.
TREVERTON COLLEGE
Your sporting home for next few days situated in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands with picturesque surroundings set to the backdrop of the mighty Drakensberg Mountains. Here you can play, practice and train in your chosen sport. Excellent playing surfaces and facilities are located on site. Fixtures at other high quality nearby schools and colleges will be prearranged. The school is perfectly placed to allow off site excursions that can include sports stadiums, museums, game reserves and mountain destinations.





Accommodation: Touring teams will be accommodated in a dormitory block in twin rooms. Rooms are the same as that of boarding scholars that attend Treverton from all over Africa. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be taken in the college dining room.
DAILY ACTIVITIES:
- Along with three fixtures touring teams will have the full use of practice facilities. Treverton boasts a wide variety of sports fields and playing surfaces set in the college’s pristine grounds.
DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAINS

A team hike and adventure into the Drakensberg Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Stable Cave.
Accommodation: Stable Cave, an ancient destination, sheltered from the elements. All bedding supplied. Our second night will be spent camping.
PONGOLA GAME RESERVE

Explore Africa’s oldest, first proclaimed, game reserve, home to Lake Jozini and the Lebombo Mountain Range the beginning of the Great East African Rift Valley. The reserve hosts 80 mammal species including both Rhino species. Elephants, buffalo, hyena, leopard, giraffe, zebra and numerous other antelope species.
Accommodation: Purpose built traditional tented safari camp. With comfortable 2 bed tents furnished with beds and lighting





DAILY ACTIVITIES:
- Bush walks: The most exhilarating way to experience the African bush is on foot.
- Game drives: Discover and learn about African wildlife on both night and day time drives in open safari vehicles.
- Conservation service: Assist game reserve management with the ongoing conservation programmes relevant to the time of year and needs of the reserve.
- Lake Boat Cruise: An opportunity to safely get up close and personal to crocs, hippo and an abundance of birdlife.
- Authentic Cultural Experience: Visit a traditional Zulu community and learn about their culture through engagement and service.
HLUHLUWE-IMFOLOZI PARK

Here in the heart of Zululand you have the chance of encountering all of Africa’s iconic wildlife including lions, cheetah and wild dogs. Once the hunting ground of Zulu King’s the park, covering nearly 100,000 hectares, is the largest dedicated wildlife area under conservation in the province.
Accommodation: Two bed traditional rondavels (round cottages with thatched roofs) The camp is situated within the Hilltop section of the park commanding magnificent views.


DAILY ACTIVITIES:
- Morning and afternoon safari game drives.
